just for the record

just for the record

you’re taken.

just for the record.

you promised not to meet some fabulous politically minded chick

just for the record.

you promised not to pair off with anyone else

just for the record.

you say you miss me much

and you better be telling the truth

because i will be hurt

just for the record.

i miss you not as much as i thought

because i haven’t been home at all

my friends are helping me “cope”

i hope i don’t get time to miss you

because it’ll hurt.

but i do wish you were here

a lot.

just for the record.

first kiss

first girlfriend

first girl whose house you went to for dinner

first date

[that was so set up, by the way]

first girl you took to prom

first set of parents you tried to impress

first kiss in the rain

first girl you danced with

first girl you held hands with [well, not counting sisters]

first girl you put your arm around

first girl other than a relative

to kiss your booboos.

the girl who had a crush on your best friend

for ages before she knew you

first girl to make her profile a picture of you two together

to put the date in her buddy info, though you don’t know it

to keep a picture of you by her bed

though you don’t know that either

you tell her she’s beautiful

and because of you, she starts to believe she is

you tell her she’s nice

she trys harder to be sweet just for you

she steals your hat just to get you to chase her

because you guys skipped the flirting stage

first girl to call you hott

because, in her mind, you are the most wonderful person alive.

and she knows she’s first

because your sister and best friend told her

and every day that makes her feel special

amazing

you’re the first guy to do that for her.

she counts you as her first kiss

because it was the first kiss she wanted

and it was perfect and awkward and everything it should be.

you’re her first serious boyfriend

and you don’t know it yet

but she considers you her first love

and dreams of a future with you.

she doesn’t think she deserves you

but thanks god every day that you’re hers.

rain

July 6, 2008

getting out of the car

awkward moments

we kiss

raindrops

splatters

it’s raining torrentially

pouring down

i can taste the rain on his lips

what a perfect delicious goodbye

i’ll miss you.

me too.

and i go inside, soaked to the skin.

summer eats

July 2, 2008

champagne summer shortcakes wouldn’t be my family’s thing. but the summer fruits in the honey-champagne syrup glaze could shine. another oppurtunity to use the elusive pluot: part plum, part apricot. weird, to my thinking. it’s delicious, but certainly not the most attractive fruit. figs, plums, and nectarines, maybe white peaches. all this seems to add up to a visit to your friendly neighborhood produce stand for farm-fresh produce.

i am still searching for shot glass dessert recipes, and those lovely little fruit gems could be a brilliant summer dessert accompanied by whipped cream or ice cream. liquid nitrogen ice cream appeals to the chem geek in me.

tip top melon sherbert looks interesting. the color is lovely, and i’ve been looking for a chance to use my ice cream maker. i once had a delicate cantalope soup with lime sorbet, over at Bell’s Mansion in Stanhope. This was long ago, of course. It has changed owners twice since I had that luscious chilled soup, which was delicate, refreshing, and perfectly balanced in flavor. i’ve contemplated chillen melon soups of all sorts; the mix and match melon soup over at martha stewart was intriguing, but not at all what i was trying to recreate. this sherbert looks to be just the thing, and would of course be adorable in shot glasses with my time spoons.

mini berry buttermilk milkshakes would be just the thing. i think i’d use blackcurrant syrup rather than crème de cassis, as even the slightest hint of alcohol can make me dizzy. even a lemony simple syrup would be good to incorporate into the berry puree. the colors in these shakes are simply lovely.

this heather honey ice cream looks divine, but i think i’d rather try the honey ricotta ice cream i once promised to make.
