jayne. the man they call jayne.

crochet jayne cobb hat. it’s by kim werker, editor of interweave crochet magazine and one of my heroes.
this may just wind up as ryan or kim’s christmas present.
as you all should know, in the firefly episode “The Message”, our favorite mercenary, jayne cobb, was sent a knit hat by his mother. this hat somewhat resembles a teacozy. “Man walks down the street in a hat like that, you know he’s not afraid of anything.”

now, in the interest of amusing firefly in real life, i’m going to tell the story of my friend Jane (YAHN-ee). Jane is not really a friend of mine, more of an acquaintance, but he’s been in a few of my classes over the years. the other day in precalc class, my friend kim (who sits behind me) began singing the hero of canton song with me. Jane thought we were mocking him, as he sits right next to kim. this is not the funny bit. it gets better.
friday was Jane’s birthday. he’s in my spanish class, and therefore had to wear the birthday hat, which is basically a big sombrero with a large yellow and orange flower on it. man walks down the hall in a hat like that….well, you get the picture. which is why i spent the entire language lab period cracking up so badly that no one could understand me.
in other firefly news, i have a kaylee-esque costume in the works for halloween. it is a conglomeration of things that i think come across just right. i hope my glasses don’t cause an issue, and there will be pictures of my costume forthcoming.
the pink meadow dress from modcloth. i don’t think i have ever spent a better $65. to finish off this outfit are my strawberry earrings and bracelet, and a printed paper parasol i got several ren faires ago. this may not reproduce the exact outfits from the show, but i feel the basic kaylee-ness will shine through. it’s a pretty pink dress that’s practical with a little bit of “prairie harpy”. underneath it i am wearing a silver shiny chinese collared shirt i got at TJ Maxx for $2.
